Akure—FRESH facts emerged yesterday on why the 22 chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State were suspended for anti-party activities few days after the party lost the governorship election.
It lost the last Saturday election to the opposition All Progressive Congress, APC.
Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN emerged as the governor-elect of the state defeating the PDP candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, SAN with over 94,000 votes.
A statement by the Publicity Secretary of the Party Banji Okunomo in Akure said those axed worked against the party in the governorship election.
Okunomo told Vanguard that the party is not after those who have openly defected to other parties but those who claimed to be members of the PDP but consciously worked against its interest.
He said the affected persons are to appear before the disciplinary committee of the party on Monday, December 5, 2016.
Also axed include, the former Deputy governorship candidate to the sacked Jimoh Ibrahim, Ebenezer Omotayo Alabi, the state Chairman of the party in Sheriff’s faction, Biyi Poroye, Senator Omololu Meroyi , former speaker of the State House of Assembly Bakita Bello, former deputy speaker, Emiola Dare and former deputy national Youth leader of the party, Hon Denis Alonge-Niyi.
Others include another former factional chairman of the party in the state Dr Olu Ogunye, a former governorship aspirants in the sheriff’s faction and former Environment Commissioner Sola Ebiseni, former Director General of Jimoh Ibrahim Campaign Organisation Chief Olabisi Johnson and the deputy state Chairman of Sheriff’s faction Hon Johnson Alabi.
