A senior legislative aide, Mr. Abubakar Sani-Doki, died on the National Assembly premises on Monday, arising from unknown health complications.
Investigations showed that he was engaged by the Office of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Yussuff Lasun.
Findings showed that he died in the morning hours shortly after he arrived at the premises.
The late aide was said to have been ill for a while and came to the National Assembly on Monday, primarily to use the services of the National Assembly Clinic.
The clinic was said to have referred him to the National Hospital, Abuja.
However, his condition suddenly worsened and he reportedly slumped and died before an ambulance could move him out of the premises.
“He did not make it. As soon as he came to the premises, his situation became worse.
“He died suddenly even before he could get out of the premises,” an official said.
Sani-Doki hailed from Bangudu in Zamfara State.
Earlier reports had indicated that he was an aide to the Chairman, House Committee on Finance, Mr. Babangida Ibrahim.
The PUNCH later learnt that Sani-Doki was a only a friend to Ibrahim, but was a member of Lasun’s staff.
When contacted for comments, Lasun’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Wole Oladimeji, claimed he was not aware that the deceased worked with his boss.
However, a top official in the Deputy Speaker’s office confided in The PUNCH that Sani-Doki worked at Lasun’s office.
The official said, “Oh, yes, Abubakar Sani-Doki; he worked with the DS.”
The PUNCH gathered that Sani-Doki would be buried after a funeral service at the Abuja National Mosque on Monday by 4pm.
A text message circulated to mourners read, “Funeral prayers slated for 4pm at National Mosque, Abuja.”
