The crisis rocking the Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party deepened on Saturday when a factional state Chairman of the party, Mr. Iyiola Oyedepo, suspended another factional Chairman of the party, Mr. Sunday Fagbemi.
According to a joint statement by Oyedepo and his factional Secretary, Mr. Abdulwaheed Yusuf, other suspended members included Kunle Suleiman, Hassan Stands-Zorro, Captain Isiaka Also (retd.), Illyasu Ibrahim, and Jide Usman-Alabi.
They were said to have been suspended for allegedly taking over the state secretariat at Asa Dam Road, Ilorin, where they engaged in unruly conduct.
The statement explained that the case had also been referred to the PDP National Secretariat, adding that the affected members and their followers should keep away from the state party secretariat in their own interest.
It said, “The six of them masterminded the unlawful and wilful break-in at the PDP Secretariat on Monday, October 31, 2016.
“They were accordingly reported to the police at the Kwara State Police Command, Ilorin. The police charged the six of them to the Magistrates’ Court on November 17, 2016.
“When they finish with their matter in court, they may be considered for readmission into the party if exonerated by the court of law.”
Fagbemi could not be reached for a reaction as his telephone indicated that it was switched off and a text message sent to him had yet to be responded to as of the time this report was filed.
