Plans are underway to bring in vital equipment for full automation of postal services in Nigeria, in readiness for the Central Bank of Nigeria’s financial inclusion with the Nigerian Postal Service.
The Area Postal Manager, Lagos Mainland Territory, Dr. Asuquo Abianga, disclosed this to our correspondent on Monday, in commemoration of the 2016 World Post Day celebrations.
“With the automation of postal services on the ground, our numerous customers will surely witness the long-awaited transformation of post offices to serve as ‘Public Access Venues’ for various transactions,” he said.
“Although the journey is not without numerous challenges, we believe that no hurdle is insurmountable given the right motivation and conducive work environment.
“We have done great exploits in the past and we are still here doing more as we are optimistic that the future will definitely be brighter and better than yester years,” Abianga added.
The NIPOST area manager said that there were some unique advantages, including extensive structural networks, noting that over the years, “the agency as a service has continued to explore how best to fully utilise our network by incorporating new technologies to reduce cost and improve on the quality of its services.”
He said, “This has led to partnerships with relevant stakeholders in communications and e-commerce sectors where we are building effective and sustainable collaboration in order to deliver efficient and high quality service.
“The NIPOST is now poised to play a unique and critical role in the Nigerian economy of today. With the current Postmaster General of the Federation, Bisi Adegbuyi, we are rest assured that the repositioning of our beloved organisation to take its pride of place as a leading service provider in Africa has indeed begun.”
He added, “On several occasions since his assumption of office, the PMG has often stated that now is the time to devise a means of changing the trajectory of NIPOST.
“He has promised to resuscitate and enable NIPOST to meet Nigeria’s economic challenges by turning it to a business conglomerate.”
