The need for Small and Medium Enterprises in Nigeria to further leverage technology to drive business growth has again been stressed.
This was made known at the ‘Accelerate Your Business’ event organised by Microsoft, in collaboration with Intel and HP.
The event, held in Lagos, had over 100 owners of SMEs or their representatives in attendance.
According to speakers on the day, the need for the SMEs to evolve in the business world could not be better relevant with the current macro-economic challenges facing small businesses in Nigeria.
The SMB Customer Marketing Manager, Microsoft Nigeria, Adeniyi Adebote, said that the contribution of the SMEs to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product currently stood at one per cent, adding that they had the potential to contribute more and become the bedrock of the country’s economy.
This, he said, necessitated Microsoft’s collaboration with Intel and HP to organise an SME-focused.
Adebote said, “Accelerate your business is an opportunity for Microsoft and its partners to collaborate with small and medium-scale businesses to see how they can leverage technology devices from HP utilising the Intel Processor and Microsoft Windows 10 operating system, including its Office 365 Productivity Suites, as well as cloud solutions to achieve growth and greater efficiency.”
The HP Regional Marketing Manager, Personal Systems, North East and West Africa, ToluLawani, advised the SMEs to adopt the right tools and technology to remain competitive.
“Business landscape in Nigeria is very dynamic. As such, the SMEs need support from relevant private and public sectors to find their feet in the economy,” Lawani said.
He urged the SMEs to register with the SME Business Club, an initiative of HP, Microsoft and Intel, to host the SMBs and provide them with needed support and exclusive product offers.
In the same vein, the Marketing and Public Relations Manager, Intel, AdimIsiakpona, said that Intel had been in the forefront of inspiring, mentoring and driving growths among the SMEs in the country and would continue to stay committed to this.
“We will continue to see how we can support the SMEs in this aspect, channelling them to the right place and information, as well as giving them the needed support,” he added.
