The Centre for International Advanced and Professional Studies has announced a public interest essay competition aimed at studying the economic recession in the country and proffering solutions to it.
The competition, themed: ‘Nigerian recession: Diagnosis and prognosis’, a N1m prize money, is open to students, graduates, professionals, academics and all stakeholders with interest in and understanding of the economy.
In a statement published on its website, the Head of Events and Projects, CIAPS, Mrs. Funke Fajusigbe, said the competition was aimed at encouraging fact-based analysis.
According to her, the move is part of the centre’s efforts in contributing to the building of a knowledge-based society.
Fajusigbe said, “Entries are welcomed from anyone with interest in and knowledge of the Nigerian economy and recession, and will be judged by members of the CIAPS faculty in collaboration with a selected panelist of economic experts, operators and observers.
The panel, coordinated by the CIAPS Centre Director, Prof. Anthony Kila, includes political economist and founder, Centre for Value and Leadership, Prof. Pat Utomi; a former World Bank Vice President, Africa, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili; economist, public affairs analyst and entrepreneur, Mr. Henry Boyo; as well as a former Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Universities Commission, and President of the Nigerian Institute of Management, Pof. Munzali Jibril.
She added, “Five top essays will be selected for prizes and publications, with N500,000 for the best entry; N250,000 for the second placed entry; N150,000 for third place, while the fourth and fifth runners up are to receive N50,000 each.
“All entries are to be submitted with a cover note containing a brief biography of writer by visiting www.ciaps.org not later than 12am on November 29, 2016.”
The statement said the successful entries for the N1m prize would have to be objective and backed by facts.
The CIAPS is an international graduate school that offers postgraduate and professional programmes for graduates.
